Free School Meals

Free school meals are available to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Non-means tested free school meals have been available to children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 since September 2014. This came into place under the Children and Families Act. Currently, all KS1 pupils in state-funded schools are entitled to a free, healthy lunch regardless of their family income. Children in years 3 to 6 have to pay for school meals unless they are eligible for Free School Meals. If you would like to find out more about our free school meals please click on this link. West Green Primary School Meals (Please read below regarding Pupil Premium Funding)

Eligibility for Free School Meals

Children are eligible for Free School Meals if their parents receive any of the following benefits:

  • Universal credit (provided you have a net income of £7400 or less)
  • Income support
  • Income-based jobseekers’ allowance
  • Income-related employment and support allowance
  • Support under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of state pension credit
  • Child tax credit, provided that you are not also entitled to working tax credit and have an annual gross income of £16,190 or less

To find out whether your child qualifies for free school meals, please check here please add this link in https://pps.lgfl.org.uk/

All children who currently qualify for free school meals based on their family circumstances are entitled to pupil premium.

Pupil Premium Funding

However, schools receive additional funding for children who are entitled to Free School Meals because of their parents financial circumstances. This additional funding is called Pupil Premium. We therefore urge all parents who are in receipt of state benefits to check if they are eligible and to apply for Free School Meals regardless of the year they are in.

School’s receive an additional £1345 per child for every child who is registered to receive Free School Meals, regardless of their year group, each school year. This is a significant amount of money so even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 please do apply if you qualify otherwise we don’t receive the additional funding.

Applying for Free School Meals

If you are eligible for Free School Meals you will need to apply online through the Haringey website. Applying for Free School Meals

Cost

School Meals are £2.50 a day or £12.50 a week. Please ask at the office for more information about ways to pay.

Comment from Ofsted

“The special educational needs coordinator also leads the speech and language resource provision. She ensures that pupils are fully supported to be integrated into the regular classrooms and to make the same good progress as their peers.”
