Year 6 NSPCC Numbers Day

We had a fantastic time in year 6 during the recent NSPCC numbers day. We enjoyed working through lots of the maths riddles worn by the teachers!

Mr Spours’ riddle was – When Miguel was 6 years old, his little sister, Leila, was half his age. If Miguel is 40 years old today, how old is Leila?

We also worked through a series of maths investigations like the one shown in the photo. Interestingly, we realised maths puzzles require different strategies to work through them than normal questions do, we tried to work logically, in many cases using trial and error. The main thing is to not panic and relish being stuck, there is always a route through.
